Branch Meetings we were hoping to resume Wednesday evening
meetings on 21st October but the new rule of 6 may make that
unlikely unless we can get further guidance. The lunches are ok with groups of
4-6 on tables as the legion club has all the required safety and hygiene
measures in place for us.
September Informal Lunch This first lunch since March
went very well with 19 members attending
who all agreed it was wonderful to be out and enjoying the company again. The
tables were kept to 4-6 people on each and the food and service was superb. We
all filled out the track & trace form (name and telephone number) provided
by Ferndown Legion and there was good social distancing with excellent hygiene arrangements
carried out by the staff. They served
all our food and drinks at the table so that, once seated, there was no milling
around.
Menu for Tuesday 6th
October, ring or
email John Cusack to book your place and choices of menu. The rule of six is met by the table
arrangements at the Legion.

Congratulations go to Bob Perry who has been given the Sir
James Gildea Award by SSAFA. Bob, a caseworker at SSAFA Dorset, has been
recognised for going the extra mile for beneficiaries in Dorset through his
Woodland courses that help veterans adjust to modern civilian life. His boundless
enthusiasm and commitment to veterans have made him stand out from the crowd
and be recognised for his endless dedication to the community.
75th
Anniversary of V.J. Day 15th August
2020
A celebration of this event took place in Poole Park,
at the Mountbatten Memorial, on Saturday 15th August. It was
attended by the Mayor of Poole and several of our Branch members. Guest of
honour was our most senior member Bob Hucklesby, 99, who was a Japanese PoW in
Changi camp. The other veteran is Roy Massey, also 99, who served in the Royal
Air Force and was also in Changi camp although the two never met until this
month.
Don Richardson Our sincere condolences go to the family of 94 year old Don Richardson who passed away in August. His funeral was held in Mudeford on 4th September and was attended by Maurice Pearson displaying the Standard, and John Cusack who played the Last Post.
