NEWSLETTER- JULY 2013.

Branch Informal Lunches,   Held on  First Thursday on odd months at  Poole Ex-Servicemen’s Club, North Road, Poole, at 12.30..  First Tuesday on Even Months at Ferndown R.B.L. Club, at Noon.     Quarterly – Gurkha Restaurant, Sandford Road, Wareham, BH20  7AD.

WELFARE

Deana Brown  wife of Dennis, has been in Hospital after suffering a broken leg.  The good news is that she is now home and recovering well. Also Richard Silsby is not well at this time.

Our good wishes go to them and any Member or Lady who may be unwell.

BIRTHDAYS OF NOTE.

Many happy returns go to Clive Gibbs  who will be 75 on 14^th  August.

CONGRATULATIONS.  From us all to George and Joan Wilby, who have recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.  

ENTERTAINMENT.

Tonight our entertainment will be a Skittles Evening. The meal will be a Ploughman’s Supper supplied by our fine team of catering ladies.

In August we look forward to a visit by Mike Crankshaw with his presentation entitled

"Down the Stour".    

SEPTEMBER FISH/ CHICKEN &CHIPS,       At our Meeting on Wednesday 18^th September   there will be Bingo, followed by Supper at cost of £4.00 per head.  List on table tonight for choice of food.   MONIES  WILL BE COLLECTED TONIGHT and at  AUGUST MEETING.

ALL MEALS MUST BE BOOKED AND PAID FOR IN ADVANCE.

BRANCH INFORMAL LUNCHES.

The next of these lunches will be held  on Tuesday 23^rd July at the GURKHA RESTAURANT SANDFORD.  The next monthly Lunch is to take place at the ROYAL BRITISH LEGION CLUB, FERNDOWN,  on Tuesday 6^th  August . Lists on the table tonight. Don’t forget that if you are unable to attend meetings and would like to go to our lunches do contact Peter Piggott.  Please let Peter know if you need to cancel as this assists the caterers with food preparation.

PLEASE NOTE  THE LUNCH DUE TO TAKE PLACE ON 5^TH SEPTEMBER AT NORTH ROAD, IS NOW CANCELLED.   The reason for this is the caterers being on holiday.

REA SOUTH WEST GROUP ANNUAL BARBEQUE JULY 2013

This will be held on Sunday 28^th July, at Swinton Barracks, Pernham Down, (Near Tidworth).

Major M Horner RE, Officer Commanding, Rear Operations Group, 22 Engineer Regiment has kindly agreed to host the event in the WOs' and Sgts' Mess. 

The timings are as follows-

Arrive 1100hrs.   1130hrs Bar opens.  1200 hrs Director Arrives.

1300 hrs BBQ served.  1500 hrs Raffle and brief by Director.  1600hrs Bar closes.

1630hrs Disperse.  .  Bookings are now closed.

CORPS MEMORIAL WEEKEND.

This takes place on 13^th-15^th September 2013 in Chatham.   Included will be Beating Retreat on Saturday afternoon,  as well as official Corps Memorial Weekend events. Accommodation is in Kitchener at nil cost, Meals are as follows: Breakfast, £4.20. Lunch, £4.55. Dinner, £5.18. Pay As You Dine. Bookings are now closed.

R.E.A. A.G.M. and ANNUAL LUNCH.

This takes place At the Victory Services Club. Seymour Street, London   W2  2HF. on Saturday 12^th October    The A.G.M. starts at 1600hrs followed at 1800hrs for 1830hrs by the Annual Dinner. The cost for a 4 course meal with port and mints is £20.00.  Member's partners are most welcome. Booking required by early September. 

Also why not stay overnight for Sapper Sunday at The Royal Hospital Chelsea  on

Sunday 13th October.   Booking not needed for this event.     Branch secretary has full details.

NATIONAL MEMORIAL ARBORETUM.

During an unexpected personal family visit to the N.M.A. in Staffordshire, it was a pleasant surprise to meet some fellow Sappers from the Chesterfield Branch. They had arrived complete with their Standard on the occasion of dedicating a memorial stone to a late comrade.
