Newsletter for Branch meeting on 21st August 2019 - Please note any information for the newsletter to be passed on to Jan Bridle by the last Saturday before the next meeting; also if anyone has changed their email address or set up a new one could they please let Jan know.

Branch subs   remain at £15 and are due to be paid to the treasurer now if not already paid. Please send any cheques, made out to REA Bournemouth, to the above address for John Cusack.

Next meeting on 18th September  will be a talk by Mike Randall  called ‘Son of a Spy’

Vacancies    A new Social Secretary is still required. Any ideas for evening meetings welcomed.

Monthly Informal Lunches
As usual held on the first Tuesday, menu lists on the table at evening meetings. Contact John Cusack for any information or to book/choose from menu if not at meeting.

Birthdays of Note
This month we wish a very happy birthday to Jim Tongs who will be 85 on 8th September and to Bob Perry who will be 65 on 11th September. Welcome to your bus pass Bob!

Social  Last month’s skittles evening was very much enjoyed by all those who attended. The men’s and the sudden death competitions were both won by Tony Jennings, and the ladies’ competition was won by Sheila Lilley’s daughter, Michelle. It was decided that as the evening was such good fun that it would be repeated at the Christmas meeting.
This month we will be collecting numbers and payment for the Fish/Chicken and Chips Bingo evening on 16th October. The cost this year is to be subsidised by the branch and will be £2.50.
Standard Bearer
On Friday 16th August our new Standard Bearer carried out his first engagement at the funeral of Sapper Brian Guy (Swanage) at Poole Crematorium. Well done Maurice, you did us proud.
Battle of Britain Commemoration Service 8th September 2019
The Poole branch of the RAF Association is holding this ceremony at St James’ parish church in Poole at 6.30pm on 8th September. It will be attended by the Mayor and the Sherriff of Poole, RAF branch members, and by cadets from Poole, Parkstone and Wareham squadrons and by Swanage Detached Flight, Air Training Corps, and by their Standard Bearers.
Also commemorated at this service is the part Poole town played in the lead up to ‘Operation Overlord’ on the 75th Anniversary of the ‘D’ Day landings.
We have been cordially invited to join these celebrations which will commence at 6.15pm with the cadets and branch members forming up along the path leading up to the Church steps where they will be met by the Civic Party and Standard Bearers.  Maurice Pearson will be parading the Standard for the REA and we hope as many as possible of our branch members will be able to attend. Medals and berets may be worn if desired, please let John Griffiths know as soon as possible if you are going to attend.

REA South West AGM at Tidworth 21st Sep 2019
This will take place at the WOs’ and SGTS’ MESS, 26 ENGR REGT, Tidworth.   Bournemouth branch Chairman, vice Chairman and Arthur Dixon will attend. If anyone else would like to attend please let John Griffiths know as soon as possible.

c. AGM 1200 - 1300                       d. Curry lunch 1300 – 1430


V.J. Day 15th August 2019
This year the ceremony was well attended, with five standards being paraded and several wreaths laid. Burma Star Veteran, Mr Bob Hucklesby, 98, planted a British Legion cross in memory of those he left behind in Singapore and Thailand. Next year will be the 75th Anniversary.
