NEWSLETTER - November  2015.  Branch Meeting Wednesday 18^th

Branch Informal Lunch,   Held on  First Tuesday of each month at  Ferndown  R.B.L. Club

ENTERTAINMENT.

TONIGHT.      We welcome the return of Jackie Smith who will entertain us with a talk and photographs of her travels around the world.  This time her subject is called "The Somerset Levels and it's Houses".     At our meeting in December on Wednesday 16^th.  we will welcome Alan Chitty Magician.  This will be our Xmas Party night with a special supper from our wonderful catering ladies and a beautiful cake made by Peggy.  Thank you very much.

An excellent early start to Christmas.

 REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY PARADES. 8^th NOVEMBER

The branch was represented at Parades held around the district again this year.  Wreaths were laid on behalf of the branch, in Bournemouth by  Jim Tongs and at Poole by Vice-Chairman Peter Piggott.  Thank you both for representing us in paying tribute.  A word of thanks to all Members and Ladies who attended

Unfortunately our standard was not on parade this year, as Bert Martin was Veteran's Marshal at Poole However Bert did parade the Standard on Remembrance Day  outside the Civic Buildings at Poole.

If you would be willing to be trained as a Standard Bearer Bert Martin will be more than pleased to give all the help needed.

 INFORMAL  LUNCHES.

The next lunch will be held on Tuesday 1^ST  December at FERNDOWN ROYAL BRITISH LEGION CLUB.   This will be A Christmas Lunch consisting of two Courses, also including Mince Pies.  We are indebted to Hazel Aldridge for the donation of crackers. 

The cost has been set at £10.00.   A raffle will be held.  .

A date of 26^th November has been set for the final day for booking,

As all our monthly lunches are held at  FERNDOWN on the First Tuesday of each month the January lunch has been arranged for Tuesday 5^th.  COST IS TO YET TO BE ANNOUCED

Lists on the table tonight.  Don’t forget that if you are unable to attend meetings and would like to go to our lunches do contact  Mike Herbert  on 01202  674612.  Please let Mike know before Noon on the Sunday before the Lunch  if you need to cancel as this assists the caterers with food and seating.       Lists on the table Tonight.

 

TED YOUNG.

Ted was given the honour to be asked by Royal British Legion Ferndown, and the Mayor to purchase  the first Poppy this year.

 

Ken and Lilly Easthope.

In the last month we have said "Farewell" to Ken and Lilly who have left the district to live in Droitwich, Worcestershire.   We wish them well - and - much happiness in their new home.

 

DRUMHEAD SERVICE

 

Presentati​on of the Albert Hicks award and shield.

Representing the Branch on Wednesday 11^th November at Tidworth was our Chairman Allan Grover and his Wife, Wendy.  Also our Branch Secretary, John Griffiths accompanied by his Wife, Gwen.  Allan delivered the citation and presented the Albert Hicks Memorial Award to Lance Corporal Shaun Pierce who had been selected as the outstanding serving soldier of 2015. There was also a cheque for £100 which was £50 from the Branch and £50 from Tony Edwards.

To quote Tony, "From one old soldier to a young soldier!"         

 

 BRANCH COMMITTEE VACANCIES.  

The Post of Minute Secretary needs to be filled.   John Griffiths, who is now Branch Secretary needs some one to take the Minutes as soon as possible, please help.

Newsletter.   Mike Herbert reluctantly needs to  relinquish his post as Newsletter Editor, plus the postal and email monthly distribution.  Please consider this position.  Mike needs this post to be filled as soon as possible .  It is hoped that with the help of his wife Joan he will be able to continue until our A.G.M in March when they will stand down.

 

ADVANCE NOTICE BRANCH SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR 2016.

These will become due on 1^st JANUARY. The cost this coming year will increase to £15.00. The reason for this rise is the increasing cost of Production and Distribution of the monthly Newsletter and Branch expenses. Full details will be available in time for the Branch A.G.M in March

Over the last few years payments have been late in arrival so -  Please make payments as early as possible at the beginning of the New Year.

 

                                       

 

EVENTS 2016

BRANCH EVENT. Saturday 7th  May      

The Branch Annual Lunch will be held at the Cumberland Hotel. East Cliff. Bournemouth.
