NEWSLETTER - JULY 2015. Branch Meeting
Wednesday 15th,
BIRTHDAY OF NOTE
This month Larry Adams will celebrate his 75th
Birthday on 23rd July. We wish him "Good Health and Many Happy Returns of
the Day"
WELFARE
Recent visits
by our Welfare Officer Peter were
made to Tony Edwards and Arthur Hardiman. Both are doing as well as can be expected
in their own homes. We wish them, and
any Members or Ladies who may be unwell at this time, a speedy return to good
health.
ENTERTAINMENT.
TONIGHT:
This is to be a
Skittles Evening with a Ploughman's
Supper. All food must be ordered and paid for in
advance. The cost is to be £2.50 Per person. Help
required in setting up, scoring etc. and clearing up afterwards. At the meeting in August to be held on Wednesday
19th we welcome a visit from Julian
Humphries, Speaker from Dorset Police.
ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS
Now that we are
already half way through the year there are still some Members who appear to
have overlooked payment for 2015. If you
have not yet paid your Annual Subscription please send your overdue payment to
Branch Treasurer as soon as possible.
BRANCH SECRETARY
At the
committee meeting on Wednesday 1st July John Griffiths offered his services as Branch Secretary. This offer was duly accepted and agreed on
by a unanimous committee member's vote.
The post takes effect immediately.
John will also continue to
carry on in his current role as Minutes Secretary, for the time being.
The next lunch
will be held on 4th AUGUST at FERNDOWN, ROYAL BRITISH LEGION CLUB.
As all our monthly lunches are now held at FERNDOWN
on the First Tuesday of each month the September
lunch has been arranged for Tuesday 1st
.
Lists on the
table tonight. Don’t forget that if you
are unable to attend meetings and would like to go to our lunches do contact Mike
Herbert 01202 674612
Please let Mike know before Noon on the
Sunday before the Lunch if you need to cancel
as this assists the caterers with food and seating.
The Civic
parade, marking the start of the newly elected Poole Mayor's year of office,
took place on Sunday 14th June.
Bert Martin paraded our
Branch Standard. Several Mayors from
surrounding districts attended the service at St James Church Poole.
Due to wet
weather the ceremony to mark Armed Forces Day on Monday 22nd June,
at Poole Civic Centre, had to be held indoors.
Ted Young was present and
once again Bert paraded our Branch Standard. There was a service, led by the Mayor's
Chaplain, to commemorate the service of all men and women in the British Armed
Forces. The High Sheriff of Dorset joined
the Poole Mayor in tribute and two minutes silence was observed for those who
lost their lives while serving their country. Our thanks to Bert.
SOUTH WEST GROUP,
R.E.A. B.B.Q
This is due to
take place at 22 Engineer Regiment
Pernham Down, (Near Tidworth) on Sunday
26th July. The timings are as follows: Members to arrive,11.00 tea and coffee served.
11.30 bar opens. 13.00 BBQ served. 15.00 raffle. 16.00
bar closes. 16.30 disperse. The cost
will be £10 per person. All names and monies to Secretary. NOW CLOSED The Albert Hicks Memorial Award and
cheque will be presented. The Mini Bus
will be leaving Ferndown RBL at 09.30hrs
The meeting on 21st October will be 'Bingo Night' when a fish and
chip supper is planned. Bookings and monies will be collected at the August and
September meetings. Costing not yet
available.
