SOUTH WEST GROUP ANNUAL
STANDARD BEARERS RALLY
Held
on Saturday 30th May. The Branch was well represented. The
Standard Bearer's Competition was held this year during an 'Open Family Day' at
Tidworth. Unfortunately this proved to
be quite an unsatisfactory arrangement.
There was so much distraction all around and it was difficult for the
participants to hear the commands. Bert Martin paraded our standard but did
not enter the competition. This was won by the Standard Bearer from the
Weymouth Branch.
Once
again this year a Mini Bus was available, for which we have to thank Peter and Jan Bridle, also Branch
Secretary for making arrangements. Special
mention to Jan who drove us all so
brilliantly. Thank you all very much
BRANCH COMMITTEE VACANCY.
The Post of Branch Secretary still needs
to be filled.
THE FILLING OF THIS
POST IS NOW EXTREMELY URGENT.
SPECIAL OCCASION
Belated
"Congratulations" to Carol and Roy Robinson on their recent Diamond
Wedding Anniversary. They shared
continuing celebrations with REA Members who were present at the regular
monthly lunch on 2nd June.
TRIBUTE
Thomas Leslie
(86) died on the 70th Anniversary of VE Day in a Christchurch nursing home. He had no relatives to attend his
funeral. Due to publicity more than 120
people gathered to honour his life. Bert Martin paraded our Standard at the
request of the British Legion. Thanks to
Bert, John Griffiths and Peter Bridle who attended accompanied by their ladies. Although not a member of Bournemouth Branch
REA, Thomas had served in the Royal Engineers working in bomb disposal for some
years. His medals showed service in Palestine , Cyprus
and Korea .
