Branch Meeting Wednesday the 21st

BIRTHDAY of NOTE. Greetings go to Richard Silsby who celebrates his 70th Birthday on the
6th of October
Tom Rees. 23/10/1919 - 02/9/2011. The funeral of Tom Rees took place at Bournemouth crematorium on Wednesday 14/09/2011. Although Tom was not a Branch Member Bert Martin paraded the Branch Standard as requested by the family. Tom joined the Royal Engineers at the outbreak of War. He served for a total of 6 years. With the 8th Army he was sent to North Africa where he was involved in the defence of Tobruk and was twice mentioned in despatches. He later served in Italy. Bert was thanked for bringing dignity, ceremony and pride to a final farewell
ENTERTAINMENT
Tonight we welcome Mike Crankshaw who will tell us all about “Life on the Royal Yacht”.
In October we look forward to a visit from Mrs Warner and her presentation entitled
“Magistrates Court”.
COACH OUTING TO THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION POPPY FACTORY, RICHMOND
The Social Secretary has arranged a day out to the Poppy Factory on THURSDAY 17th NOVEMBER. The cost will be £25-50 Per Head to include Lunch. This is a 2 course meal with a choice of either Fish and Chips, Cottage Pie with Vegetables or a Vegetarian option followed by Homemade Sweet and a cup of tea. We need to fill a 42 Seater Coach. Please support him. Wheelchairs are allowed but NON are available for hire. List on table tonight please enter your names.
The Time Table is: Ferndown British Legion Club Depart 9.15. (Car parking has been arranged with the Club) Arrive at the Poppy Factory in time for lunch, with a comfort break enroute. After lunch we enjoy a conducted tour of the factory. We Depart for our journey home at 4.30 Approx. If you cannot attend meetings, to book your place, please contact Peter Piggott.

BRANCH INFORMAL LUNCHES. At the North Road Lunch held on Thursday September 1st. 22 Members, Ladies and 1 guest where present. The October Lunch is to be held at R.B.L Club Ferndown on October 4th at 12 Noon. The Gurkha Lunch takes place on Tuesday October 25th at the Gurkha Restaurant, Sandford, starting at 12 Noon. List on table tonight. Don’t forget if you are unable to get to meetings you can always book your place by contacting Peter Piggott. The right hand photograph was taken by Bob Hucklesby in August of this year. Bob estimates that it is now approx 12 feet in height It is amazing the growth that has taken place in such a short time.
A word of thanks goes to Joan Herbert and also the Bournemouth Daily Echo for
publishing the notice regarding new members.This resulted in 6 new members joining our
association. It is important to keep our membership at its present level.
NOTES FOR YOUR NOVEMBER DIARY.
The monthly lunch will Now be held at Ferndown R.B.L.Club on Tuesday 1St starting 12.00 pm. At our Monthly meeting on Wednesday 16th, Jackie Smith is going to take us on a journey between Alderney-Washington, U.S.A.
You may remember Jackie took us on Route 66 last year.
