Newsletter for November 2024

Branch subs Subscriptions 

for 2024 will be £20. This is the first rise in many years and they are due now. Please support the branch by paying the £20 either by internet banking or cheque made out to REA Bournemouth. For bank account details please contact John Cusack by phone or by email, numbers above.

Branch monthly Lunches and Brunches

These are informal, social meetings where any news etc. can be passed on to those attending, and added to the newsletter for others to read. The brunches are held at the Barrington Centre Café in Penny's Walk, Ferndown BH22 9TH  Wives, children and guests are also very welcome. This is also now open to all service and ex service personnel and their families. You can park in Tesco’s car park free and the centre is just past Tesco’s on the other side of Penny’s Walk, and this month it is on Saturday the 9th November. The lunches are also held at the Barrington Centre Café, and will be on Tuesday the 26th November.  As with the brunches, wives, children and guests also welcome. 

The lunch menu this month is

choice of Lasagna or Roast Chicken followed by Treacle sponge and custard. At a cost of only £7 a head it is great value for money. Please contact John Cusack or Maurice Pearson to book your place.

Social - Branch Christmas Lunch

The date for the xmas lunch has now been changed to Thursday, 19th December, as our chef at the Barrington is on holiday until the 18th. Prices and menu are similar to last year, 3 courses of traditional Christmas fare, including a glass of wine or beer at around £16 a head. Also it has been decided to not hold a brunch in December. As there is limited space available in the Barrington Centre please advise Maurice Pearson of your intention to attend as soon as possible.

Remembrance Day 10th November

Parades are held in all our areas, please attend one if you can. Maurice Pearson is to parade the Standard at the ceremony in West Moors in the morning. Maurice will also parade the Standard and lay a wreath at the ceremony in Ferndown in the afternoon. John Cusack will lay a wreath on behalf of the Branch in Bournemouth and Dot Martin will lay one in Sturminster Marshall in memory of her husband Bert.

Branch News and Messages

At our lunch on 26th November we are to be joined by a representative from the Engineer Regiment at Tidworth and we will be very pleased to welcome him.

For those of you who remember Irene and Paul, Ted Young’s daughter and son-in-law, who moved to Spain, you’ll be glad to know that they were not involved in the recent devastating floods in Valencia and we send them our best wishes.
